Itinerary @ cuti-cuti Ipoh

Planning a holiday means pre reading on where to go, what to eat and most important for me is comfortable hotel to stay with. Sometimes we also take into considerations of participants age therefore limiting strenuous activity and replace with plenty of rest time within a day especially for trips with kids and elderly.

I am sharing my 2 day 1 night Ipoh itinerary in the event you would like to try out something different from the usual.

Saturday
Depart from KL at 9.30am.
Reaching Tanjung Tualang for seafood lunch at 12pm
Luen Fong Restaurant is highly recommended by local.
Their signature dish i.e.
Fried rice (not available for weekends), Steam soon hock fish, Tanjung Tualang prawn (2 dishes)1. For steam please order the Large size prawn preferably 1 for each person.2. Kicap Prawn ask for medium size

After lunch head to Gua Tempurung, try reaching there before 2pm so you could participate in their hourly cave discovery tour.
By 3pm, continue the journey to Ipoh.
Check-in to hotel and relax up to 6pm for dinner.
For dinner normally I opted Oversea Restaurant or Pusing Seafood Restaurant.
If you prefer something lighter you can try Let's Rock cafe for their Yong Tau Foo & Curry Fish Head. Their fish ball is highly recommended.

Sunday
8am head out for breakfast
Options:
1) Dim Sum at Ming Court Ipoh Dim Sum
2) Curry Mee at Xin Quan Fang
3) Hakka Mee at Hugh Low street or Jalan Sultan Iskandar Shah, just few doors away from Xin Quan Fang
After breakfast take a leisure walk nearby Snowy Mountain for their signature soy bean drinks and Tau Foo Fa. You can do some shopping here too for salty chicken and Yee Hup Hiong Piah nearby.
Try out Lunch @ Nasi Ayam Pak Kong.
Back to hotel to freshen up and proceed with check out.
Head to Kek Lok Tong.
By 3pm, leaving Ipoh heading back to KL.

Kek Lok Tong

Kek Lok Tong is one of the attraction recommended to visit aside from Sam Poh Tong. I was testing the new Garmin GPS and Kek Lok Tong is easily found with the search function - that leave me impressed with my new Kenwood - Garmin GPS.

In a rare scene where beautiful Roaster welcome us at the car park of  Kek Lok Tong

This place has changed a lot since since I last came here in early 90s

The cave split into two area. As you enter you will be surrounded by God worshipping area. As you walk further you will come to the garden with huge lake on the other side of the cave.

The folk of goose is 'bersidai' beside the lake

As I get nearer the goose become more alert

Oh nooo...please don't go away from meeee

The louder I shouted the further dear goose leaving me behind

Curry Mee @ Ipoh

I learnt about this place from notti monkey blog. Although I have been visiting Ipoh for a number of times I never knew curry mee is one of Ipoh's must try food. Since this time we are doing a 2D1N stint, we decided to do a mini food hunt at Ipoh.

Xin Quan Fang located at Hugh Low street or Jalan Sultan Iskandar Shah. Open from 6.30am onwards while the actual serving only start after 7am.

We waited for 30 mins for a table and another 20 mins for our food to come. To my surprise I did not  hear a single complaint from my dad and my sis. This is so unlike them. Under normal circumstances my dad normally would suggest changing location given the long wait.

Their curry noddle normally sold out by 11.30am, and they closed for 1 week after 4 to 5 weeks of operating. It means it would be safer to call beforehand to check if they are open for business

What to order here
Hot coffee or Ice Coffee - a lighted version of ice blended mocha from Starbucks
Order individual specialist curry noodle - cheaper as compared to ala carte
I wanted to order the pork skin too, but it finished by 10am. :|

Their coffee preparation is unique - the Coffee Master pouring hot water around the cup before blending the coffee mix

special chili to goes with the extra dish

He is one happy old man

the simple curry mee

The extra Ipoh chicken and prawn. My sister said chicken here is better than Lou Wong, Ipoh. I can't tell myself since I am not a chicken die hard fan like my sis.

Roasted pork

Pork meat tasted so like char siew. Thumbs up for this dish.

Gua Tempurung

To begin with, I never really know the location of Gua Tempurung. I only realised this place located in Perak after bump to big advertisement billboard along Jalan Gopeng while on our way to Tg Tualang. After the delicious meal of seafood, we need some form of exercise to burn out our fats hence we make a pit stop.

The Gua Tempurung is one of the few names we learnt back in Geography subject back in secondary school. Consider as largest limestone cave (batu kapur) in the country, if I had visited this cave back in school days it will make my Geography class far more interesting.  But well, I guess it is never too late to learn now.

Gua Tempurung is guided tour given every hour from 9am onwards while their last tour is at 4pm. There are 4 type of tours to be chosen from easy peasy to challenge your physical ability. Since we came with elderly and a little girl we opt for an easy one. If you are an explorer, tour number 3 and 4 is highly recommend because one get to explore the cave deeper and returning route is via river. Remember to bring own touch light and extra pair of clothes for change because you were expected to get wet. The Rangers said these two tours only operated up to 12.30pm for safety reason. We definitely will return to try out.

Tour packages and their prices is shown here.

To manage tourist expectations, pictures is provided to give your a feel of what to expect from the tour.

Highly recommended if you are visiting Ipoh.
The cave is interesting and beautiful - something different from our daily routine. Two local movies were made in this cave namely Cicak Man 2 and Duyong. Staircase was build inside the case to make the journey a lot easier. Not suitable for family with young children (5 years old and below) and elderly.
